Never Alone: A story of a cold journey at the top of the world

by Malero on Sept. 10, 2014, 11:45 a.m. Never Alone - A story of a cold journey at the top of the world

"For thousands of years we told stories from one generation to the next. Our stories help us to understand how the world is ordered and our place within it. But what good are old stories if the wisdom they contain is not shared?"

Never Alone is a game inspired by a story told by the Iñupiat, the natives of Alaska. The story is called Kunuuksaayuka, and it has been passed down from one generation to the next through spoken storytelling since the late 1800s. The story is about a girl and her fox that must travel through dangerous lands in order to stop an endless blizzard that threatens the lives of their people. "Succeed and you will restore balance to the land. Fail and all will be lost."

In the game, you play both the girl, Nuna, and her fox. Both characters have unique abilities that are required to solve puzzles and traverse the arctic lands of Alaska. While playing the game alone, you can alternate between characters and control them individually. You may also play with a friend via local multi-player that allows each player to control one of each of the characters.

The story, characters and atmosphere has instantly pulled me in! The game looks absolutely stunning. Don't take my word for it, check out the Never Alone trailer:

You can tell that there's a strong connection between Nuna and her fox. Whether or not the story ends in heartbreak or leaves us all with our hearts warmed, this is a game that I know I will enjoy and remember. The game comes out on the 4th of November and will be available on Windows, xbone and the Playstation 4.
