FINAL FANTASY VII Review

This is a user submitted review by 7.10qt3.14 on Feb. 20, 2014, 11:36 a.m.

Hi all! Final Fantasy VII was my first Final Fantasy game back in 1997 on my Playstation. It is by far my favorite installment of the series.

Graphics

    • 8.03D

Final Fantasy VII came out in 1997 and was the first Final Fantasy game to use 3D computer graphics, fully rendered characters and pre-rendered backgrounds. And back in 1997 it was praised for these features included.

      8.0Replay Value

Personally, I replay this game every 2 years because I absolutely love this game.

        • Achievements

The Steam version has achievements that are easily unlock-able with a basic play through. And some are harder to get, like breeding a gold chocobo.

          • Re-Playable Content

I love replaying games for the hell of it. I can try to finish the game as fast as I can or I can get everybody's final limit break and to level 100. The story is also fairly replay-able.

            7.0Gameplay

The gameplay is not the game's high point, the combat system is turn based (which is rather nice), the minigames are fun and are replay-able in Gold Saucer, but the gameplay lacks in Final Fantasy VII for me.

              • 8.5Boss Fights

Some boss fights are easy and can be easily passed with a bit of grinding levels prior. But some bosses are hard at no matter what level you're at.

                • 7.5Difficulty

The game is relatively hard if you don't know what you're doing. But if you are well experienced or can read and understand context clues and don't skip through all the dialogue, the game is quite playable for any person.

                  • 8.0Puzzles

                    8.5Soundtrack

The sound effects sometimes sound like nails on a chalk board. But other than that, the music in the game is phenomenal and makes 99% of the scenes as powerful as they are. If you play this game with the music off you aren't playing the game to it's fullest.

                      6.0Cinematics

The cinematic cut scenes flow nicely with the story. My favorite part is when the cinematic jumps from movie to game. There is a significant difference in graphic quality. But that makes the game fun too.

                        9.5Story/Setting

The story is the best part of the game. Although, in the English version there are several mistranslations. But none of them are terribly game-breaking at all.

                          • 7.0Fantasy

Final Fantasy VII has elements of fantasy in it such as chocobos, materia, creatures in the game, etc.

                            • 9.0Sci-Fi

I think the Sci-Fi element of the game is much more prevailing than the fantasy element.

                              10.0Bang For Your Buck

I got this game for Christmas one year I'm not sure of the price but I have definitely had more than thousands of dollars of fun playing this game.

                                Perspective

                                  8.0Building, Crafting & Item Customization

                                    Conclusion

Overall this game is fun to play and is recommended for all people who enjoy J-RPGs and and turn-based RPG.

                                    8.5 Overall Score
