Don't Starve Multiplayer Coming Summer 2014

Klei Entertainment, the developer of the very popular game Don't Starve, has announced that the game will support multiplayer later this summer. The multiplayer feature will be considered to be an alpha update and will most likely be released on Steam's Early Access or via Steam beta opt-in. After the alpha/beta testing is over, the update will be available for free to all of us that have already purchased the game! The only hitch is that the base price of Don't Starve will be increased to $19.99 USD from the current price of $14.99 USD. As far as we can tell, that price increase will not happen until the update is deployed, so get your copy now if you haven't already. Don't Starve is an absolutely amazing game!

We cannot properly express our excitement for this announcement. Shenasaurusrex and I played Don't Starve side by side over the course of about 2 weeks and the topic of multiplayer came up quite a bit. On the official forum for Don't Starve, we often saw quite a few threads discussing multiplayer for Don't Starve and the majority of them were closed with Klei Entertainment stating that they are focusing on the best single player experience that they can and will not add multiplayer. We couldn't be happier that Klei Entertainment has changed their mind! The update will include balance changes for multiplayer "and potentially even add new features".

For all of you that do not want there to be multiplayer in Don't Starve, don't worry! Klei Entertainment has stated that this will not change the spectacular single player experience that exists today. They've hired a dedicated team to develop the multiplayer update and will still focus on improving and expanding upon the current single player game.
