What's the rank/level cap of legendary gems?
What's the highest level/rank you can get a legendary gem to? I read 50, 100 and 200 from different forum posts and the patch notes, but it seems like the legendary gem ranks were changed before the patch was released. Is there a cap to the legendary gems?

Blizzard hasn't posted any information regarding the legendary gem rank cap. Looking at the leaderboard, it looks no one has hit the cap yet. There are a few legendary gems above 50, so the cap could be 100? After legendary gem rank 40-45, it looks to be extremely difficult to upgrade them.
Gems have a lower chance of successfully upgrading when they're close to or higher rank than the greater rift that you're upgrading them from. Getting a gem even close to 100 is going to be pretty much impossible any time soon, so the soft cap is probably going to be around 55-60 for a while I think.

I was just about to post that I saw my first level 50+ legendary gem. Maybe they don't have a cap! That would be pretty neat. The way that most of them work, even in new expansions they will be useful. Similar to how we've been getting items with the same CC, CCD and AS mods since D3 vanilla.

@Finax Yeah, you're right! The only stats the seem to increase are base attributes, weapon damage and anything with flat damage like thorns and ring damage.

I've been watching the leaderboards pretty closely today and I've seen quite a few level/rank 50 legendary gems, but nothing above that. I'm pretty sure that the cap is level 50.

I'm watching a guy(3 player team) doing 45+ greater rifts and they say that they still have the option to upgrade their level 50 gems, they just haven't been successful yet. I have a feeling that they don't have a cap. I'm going to keep an eye on it and see, though.

It looks like upgrading a rank 50 legendary gem in a rank 46 greater rift has a 4% chance to succeed. That's going to take a while for most people! haha
