How do I beat the first boss?

Umm. What the heck am I missing. The first boss just smashes me. I tried to do my low kick and high kick and can't seem the beat him!

You have to turn around and run all the way towards where you came out of the water and one more screen back. Keep running and hop off of the cliff, you will grab the vine and swing around the first boss. Keep running back the way you came and that's it!
